I love the white '73 Midget seen on the prior pages, but don't put it out on the road a lot...a stone chip or unexpected shower could ruin your day. It's reserved for the warm sunny days for display on manicured lawns. There's a lot of debate about "show cars"; you might want to check out a typical exchange concerning the various philosophies.  BUT, I love to get behind the wheel of an LBC (Little British Car) and let her rip. To accomplish this I acquired several additional cars, a '66 MG Midget, a '62 Austin Healey Sprite, and a '60 Triumph TR3. They are quite different in look and performance, the Midget and Sprite with '60s era styling, smaller engine, and agile handling; the TR3 with lines going back to the early 50s, twice the horsepower, and flat out performance. I intended to bring back the Midget to a solid #3 driver and doing most of the work myself. I was then presented the opportunity to acquire the '62 Sprite, a fairly hard to come by car. This is the first year of the "new" Austin Healey Sprite following on the success of the fun and affordable "Bugeye", or as the Brits call it the "Frogeye", Sprite. This modernized Sprite was followed 6 months later by MGs introduction of the "new" Midget. This is the British sports car in its truest sense, lacking many creature comforts such as roll-up windows and door handles; light, quick, affordable, and fun. While less comfortable that the '66 Midget, the Sprite is distinct in its simplicity; although more work will be involved to bring it back, its a keeper for sure. That said, I settled on the '62 Sprite as my project car and found a good home for the '66 Midget. The new owner has completed a restoration of the '66 and is delighted with her. With the Triumph, hopefully, most of my time will be spent behind the wheel and not a wrench, though I enjoy that as well. Down the road I intend to use the '62 Sprite for buzzing around town and the TR3 for those long drives on back roads with the wind in my face and an occasional tire squeal.

In July of '06 I acquired a 1960 Austin Healey "Bugeye" Sprite from a fellow in Illinois. This is a vintage race car with a very successful campaign history dating to the early '70s. I had intended to turn the Bugeye into a street car, but after getting it home and discovering a bit more of her history, I decided it would be a shame to do so. I briefly entertained the idea going racing, but to do so would mean sacrificing the remainder of my hobby; it just wasn't worth it to me. As a result of this decision I was one vehicle over my quota (don't want to be mistaken for a collector :) so, the '60 Bugeye (GREAT car!) was sold to a nice lady in California that is going racing! I'm looking forward to see them both on Buttonwillow.
