The "Spridget Project" - Parts

Up

One aspect of a project like this that can easily get out of whack is the acquisition of parts. It seems all too often some folks get caught up in acquiring parts for a "future project" and wind up as parts collectors. On the other hand, some projects drag on forever because parts are sourced only as needed, and when looking for parts for a 40+ year old car, you can't just run down to the corner auto parts store and pick up what you need. Some parts are quite hard to find...others, virtually impossible.

Another consideration is cost; if you can buy ahead of time and take advantage of deals here and there, you can usually come out ahead. Then again, buying ahead will often result in parts that are either not correct or ultimately not needed. Fortunately, one of the best sources for hard to locate parts, Ebay, is also one of the best outlets when you need to thin down the stock of those unneeded parts.

Below is a photo inventory of parts that I have procured for the Spridget Project; hopefully, most all will find a home in the '62 Sprite. I have, however, already had to return a couple items (patch panels...for bigger patch panels!!!) and I have a part or two that are now not needed because of decisions made after their acquisition (I bought a ten row oil cooler, because it was cheap, that it has British threads and I have since decided to keep as much plumbing as possible to AN specs).
