Ray's MG Midget

"The Spridget Project" - First Look

Up

Here's the Sprite as it looked when it first arrived...and it arrived under it's own power! I was not really in the market for the car but after seeing an ad in the local paper figured it couldn't hurt to just go and "take a look." Needless to say, I was smitten by the simple lines of this survivor. The photos below show the good, bad and ugly...well, a little of the ugly...if you want to really see ugly, check out the "Disassembly" page.

CUTE! For sure.

Note the lack of door handles and roll-up windows...

...makes for a very clean look.

Heavy duty, functional roll bar already attached.

Interior not too bad...the dash is in decent shape.

New carpet and door trim for sure...maybe seat covers as well.

Engine compartment not monkeyed with too much.

The 948 looks just like the 1098 and 1275 in the Midgets.

Engine is correct...since the car has not been restored I would assume it's original.

Now here's some creative body work, a la Lowe's,

Some Bondo here...

...and a little there...

...front bumper may be discarded to match the clean lines of the rear.

Definitely some rut repair in the sills and lower doors.

Panel fit is...typical.

Rear bumper removed...was common practice and I like the look.

Yep...more repair work here.

Original vented wheels and caps...not as showy as wires, but much harder to find.

HAN6L20857 on the build plate.

Side curtains in the boot...where they belong!
