Ray's MG Midget

The "Spridget Project" - Disassembly

Up

April 2007 - stripping down parts

June 2007 - completing the interior removal; appraisal

Removing the gas tank, engine, and transmission

Removing the front fenders (wings)

Artifacts - dash markings, homemade floor pans, and wrench

Removing the doors and bracing the body

Removing the rear axle

Removing what's left and preparing for the next step, bodywork

The rear suspension is a mess; broken springs, frozen bolts and nuts, and mostly junk....

...most will need to be replaced with new parts.

Rear fenders...same story...

...patch panels at a minimum.

The chain hoist has come in handy for this effort...

...but moving forward, a body tub rotisserie will be a worthwhile investment.

A couple mover's dollies have come in handy in shuttling loose items around the shop; but some of the bigger, heavier items will go to storage.

Items that will be reused and are not too bulky...

...are being stored upstairs in the "bonus room" over the garage.

OOPS! One more task before going onto bodywork

That pesky rear suspension STILL had to come out...

...and it wasn't an easy task; soaking bolts with PB Blaster...

...resorting to a cutting disk to get the rear springs out...

...and virtually everything will have to be replaced back here...

...might be able to salvage the two rear spring retainer plates...that's all.
